We received lots of great images during May 04 – May 15, 2019 in our FB group. Thank you so much friends for your enthusiastic response and huge participation. We are very happy to see many images with some innovative interpretation of the monthly theme. It was a tough and exciting job for us to choose the best ones from so many great images.
It is with great pleasure that we announce our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners along with 8 other honorable mentions.
We also have a special winner this time – The Mentor’s Choice image has been chosen by our Guest Mentor Sam Walzade.
So here is the result… The winner is – Amit Moulick !
[In-Street Review] A few months into the pandemic, people have started realizing that the world is not going to look the same any time soon. One element that is going to take a long time to come back is to feel another human’s touch, be it a handshake, a hug or simply the warmth of feeling someone close to you. This month’s theme was to try to remember through our images how the human touch felt like before the pandemic, be it a literal touch or even just the presence of another human being. Amit’s image, here above chosen as the winner, worked in many levels: There is the obvious physical touch, but one that has no warmth and may feel even a bit icky due to the barrier of the hazmat suit. There is the timeliness of the shot. This may be the only accepted human touch we might see in the outside world for the foreseeable future. The image has a palpable sense of dread enhanced by the expression of the woman as well as the dull colors. All-in-all, a very strong shot that fills me with dread for the grim future ahead of us.
Second place goes to Sabyasachi Talukdar !
Third place goes to Ayanava Sil !
And the Mentor’s Choice goes to same image of Ayanava Sil !
[Guest Mentor’s Review] My comments on the picture were as follows: “Would love to see more images like this, with a thematic representation of the human touch. Allow me to chip in with my subjective interpretation. The hand print is a touch that has happened at some point of time in the past, and the planting of the greens inside the house compound is also a human touch. The plant will continue to grow and the hand print will fade away with time. We all feel like we are the most important species, but the fact is that the world began long before we arrived, and will probably be there long after are gone. This is the story this image tells me.” Why I chose this one: This picture reveals a lot more than what is in the frame, and also raises a lot of questions. It has perfect composition, very interesting elements that come together to create a powerful moment leading up to what we see in the frame and it also makes us wonder what happened after. The editing lends itself well to the haunting feeling. It is one of those pictures which when you see once, will always remain in your mind. It took the theme of ‘a human touch’ and elevated it to a broader comment on humanity & our impact on the world.
Finally, here are other 8 Honorable Mentions !
Many congratulations to all the respective photographers! Cheers!
