We are extremely happy to announce the results of our twentieth In-street Monthly Thematic Contest – September, 2019.
The Street Photography Contest Theme for September, 2019 was ‘Sense of Place’.
We received lots of great images during September 01 – September 12, 2019 in our FB group. Thank you so much friends for your enthusiastic response and huge participation. We are very happy to see many images with some innovative interpretation of the monthly theme. It was a tough and exciting job for us to choose the best ones from so many great images.
It is with great pleasure that we announce our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners along with 11 other honorable mentions.
We also have a special winner this time – The Mentor’s Choice image has been chosen by our Guest Mentor Mouhamed Moustapha.
So here is the result… The winner is – Arun Saha !
[In-Street Review] Giving a sense of place in a single image is a difficult task. For such picture to be successful, you need to marry the characters and their surrounding in a harmonious way. The viewer should feel that (s)he is there with the subjects of the pictures. (S)he should almost smell the scene. This month, we saw many pictures that gave us that elusive sense of place but Arun’s picture was a standout. The color scheme, the body postures, the light all made us feel as if we are in the akhada with the wrestlers. On top of the sense of place, the composition is also top-notch with the use of the mirror to fill the frame and the position of the different actors which allow our eyes to move in a circle. A successful picture should pull us in and make us travel with the photographer. Arun achieved that wonderfully with this shot.
Second place goes to Aniruddha Guha Sarkar !
Third place goes to Sreejith Ek !
And the Mentor’s Choice goes to Sarthak Banerjee !
[Guest Mentor’s Review] In my understanding to express the sense of a place, the characters and environment should connect together. I love the subject placement here, my eyes traverse from foreground to background. Two ladies walking on the right side adds dynamics to this image. The layers are working here very well. A bit overlap on right side is not creating any distraction for me. Right choice of black and white here, it creates a nice patterns in the middle area. Overall the image has a good 1960-70’s vintage feel.
Finally, here are other 11 Honorable Mentions !
Many congratulations to all the respective photographers! Cheers!
