We are extremely happy to announce the results of our twenty-ninth In-street Monthly Thematic Contest – June, 2020.
The Street Photography Contest Theme for June, 2020 was ‘Metamorphosis’.
We received lots of great images during June 01 – June 12, 2019 in our FB group. Thank you so much friends for your enthusiastic response and huge participation. We are very happy to see many images with some innovative interpretation of the monthly theme. It was a tough and exciting job for us to choose the best ones from so many great images.
It is with great pleasure that we announce our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners along with 8 other honorable mentions.
We also have 3 special winners this time – The Mentor’s Choice images have been chosen by our Guest Mentor Stavros Stamatiou.
So here is the result… The winner is – Sandipan Mukherjee !

June, 2020 Monthly Thematic Contest 1st Place Winner
[In-Street Review] The theme for the MTC this month loosely meant transformation of appearance of reality, without altering it, by adopting a specific PoV or valid techniques. This image by Sandipan fits the theme so well! Mirror or reflections always present enormous visual possibilities, but getting those shots right is also equally difficult. First look at this image makes us feel as if a truck is being physically lifted! What make that illusion possible are perhaps the PoV chosen (in a fraction of second) by the photographer to get almost the whole truck in the mirror and the homogenous colour scheme. The fact that the daily wagers lift very heavy weights regularly, subconsciously tells us that lifting a truck is also possible for them. Then the extreme right and the bottom of the frame tell us it is Metamorphosis and not the reality! Well done !!
Second place goes to Subhran Karmakar !

June, 2020 Monthly Thematic Contest 2nd Place Winner
Third place goes to Sagar Rawat !

June, 2020 Monthly Thematic Contest 3rd Place Winner
And this time we have 3 Mentor’s Choice images !

June, 2020 Monthly Thematic Contest Mentor’s Choice Winner – Image 1 by Andreas Katsakos

June, 2020 Monthly Thematic Contest Mentor’s Choice Winner – Image 2 by Ayanava Sil

June, 2020 Monthly Thematic Contest Mentor’s Choice Winner – Image 3 by Anuradha Chatterjee
[Guest Mentor’s Review] A photograph is a small piece of space and time. It gives to the viewer multiple information, as it uses elements of reality. Ιn art photography one of the most worthy and difficult aims is to achieve the metamorphosis of reality by using elements the reality itself. There are a lot of technics that can be helpful and the pictures that have been submitted for this monthly contest used a variety of these technics: creative use of perspective, shadows, reflections, silhouettes, abstract formations, or just a clever use of the light. But there are also pictures that attain this magical alteration by using none of these technics, providing rare and unique pictures.
I have selected some pictures which I believe have managed to achieve this transformation of reality. And I will present them by using a deconstruction of what we see.
The first one is a picture from Andreas Katsakos. It is not a child jumping up and down on the pavement; it’s a little fairy that came out of a fairytale and defines gravity. A beautiful, magical picture.
The second one is a picture from Ayanava Sil. It is not a boy running in front of a fire; it’s a superhero that comes out of the flames and he is on his way to save the world. A very intense and beautifully captured picture.
The third one is a picture from Anuradha Chatterjee. There is a crow and there is also a reflection of a white bird, probably Egretta garzetta. But what I see is a poetic comment on what we are and what we think we are, or maybe a glimpse of how we would like to be.
Finally, here are other 8 Honorable Mentions !
Many congratulations to all the respective photographers! Cheers!
